Having fun with my son and some AI with Firefly

Image
My son and I had some fun tonight with Firefly, Adobe's AI. It's changed a lot since I last used it. The prompt: A boy who loves frogs on Saturn. The generated image: Often AI gets a few details weird. It especially struggles with hands and feet. I took it into Photoshop and used generative AI and some manual touching up with the paintbrush, healing brush, dodge and eraser tools. I first fixed the frog feet, which don't look right in the original. After fixing the AI-generated frog feet: Photoshop really struggled with the top foot of the frog on the right, so I copy-pasted its other foot and changed it a bit to deal with that. Then I noticed that the boy's right hand and foot are not looking right. So I used generative AI to fix both of those in Photoshop as well. Here's the result: There are a few other oddities I touched up quickly. Not putting any serious time into this, as it's just been for a bit of fun. See if you can spot them! Peace!

How to write a 100K novel in four months

Image
Alikai Bronach, high fantasy author (chibi-style AI generated by BING Dalle) Is it possible to write a 100K novel in four months while also working at your full time job? Yes! Absolutely! Here's how: I've been writing novels since I was 14 and am now in my forties. After having kids, I took a big break in writing, but now I'm back with a vengeance. I have a day job, but in my spare time I write. To be more specific, I plan then I write. Planning is not for everyone. I get that. For me, however, my creativity is freed when I have done the planning beforehand.  Pelsha, a member of the Kriite warriors guild (AI image generated with neural.love) When I come to write my new adult fantasy novels, I know exactly where I am going. The story tells itself as I'm going, so the plans will always change, but the essence and the logic is already nutted out. I'm going to share what I do in case it is helpful to somebody else. If not, that's OK. Each to their own. Nyno, a commo...

I drew one of the dragon characters from my YA high fantasy series

Image
This is Emperor Ciera, a skyearl, a furred and feathered dragon. He is 20 metres long and I've drawn a horse for comparison. The oldest and largest living skyearl on Chryne, Ciera is of the Keltoar breed and is over 300 years old. The battle seat on his neck is large enough to carry three people. Skyearls range in size from a large cat to a Ciera's size. They live in Tanza, the most successful Kriite nation in Chryne. Skyearls are a civilised species with their own language, culture and hierarchy. Most can speak a variety of human languages aloud. They are born with psionic powers and can use the waves to communicate telepathically with each other. Once a skyearl has bonded with a single human they become a Sleffion-kin.  In addition to using the waves for communication, skyearls can draw water molecules from the waves and breathe them out of their mouths, creating artificial clouds called shrouds. Some skyearls can also transport a hard white substance from the waves that i...

Epic Fantasy Audiobook Series: The Psion Saga

Image
In The Psion Saga Alikai Bronach presents a world where psionic magic is part of everyday life, from the shape-changing Rada to the telepathic Anzaii. The Kriites need these powers if they are to survive the onslaught of the flame-wielding, demon conjuring Zeikas. If you enjoy classic good vs evil high fantasy with lots of action and creatures, this is a great series for you. This audiobook series is AI-narrated as I save up to pay a male narrator to voice my series. Five fantasy book blurbs

Hi everyone! I have finished writing book 4 of The Psion Saga and am working on book 5. For those who have already read books 1 and 2, you won't have to wait long to find out what happens to Sarlice and Taeon. Book 3,  Claws That Cut Both Ways,  is being release in the next few months. The publisher Australian eBook Publisher  just has some final tweaks to do with the print layout (I do my own typesetting and cover design), ebook conversion then it will go up for sale! So excited.  I would love to know what you think and if you're interested in reading my books. Here are the blurbs for all five of these classic high fantasy adventure novels for adults and young adults (13+): TIGER EYES & DRAGON TEETH I waited longer than most Kriites to meet my first kindred. Once I had an icetiger by my side it seemed I might not be the quartermaster’s apprentice for long. The artefact that awakened rare psionic powers propelled me into danger.   I had come to the att...

What is a skyearl?

Image
I invented skyearls when I started writing Tiger Eyes and Dragon Teeth as a teenager (1998). The above image is a Photoshopped version of a DALLE AI-generated image. It did a pretty good job. I also like to use Neural.love for AI image generation.  Here's the text I just input on Neural.love to try to generate an image: A skyearl is a dragon with feathers and fur. It is like a colourful hybrid between a griffin and a pegasus. It has four lion-like paws, purple and blue fur, a horse-like head with sharp golden teeth. It's feathered wings spread wide as it spurts out clouds in its wake to help it take flight.  Here's the best image it generated: It's not quite right so I did some basic/quick fixing in Photoshop to create this (after about an hour of stuffing around): Still, the best skyearl I have is the one made by the human artist, Adele Sessler, for me for the cover art of Strike of the Skyearls : And here are some excerpts from my novel describing the skyearls and wha...

Synopsis of Book 1 Tiger Eyes and Dragon Teeth

Image
In Book 2 of my fantasy series, The Psion Saga,  Strike of the Skyearls, is the following synopsis of Book 1. Readers can pick up Strike of the Skyearls without reading Talon's adventures in Book 1 if they wish. SOTS is actually a very exciting and epic novel, with a realm-wide war in Tanza. If this is more your style, you might want to skip the coming-of-age tale in Tiger Eyes and Dragon Teeth , which sets the scene for Talon and Sarlice's adventures in the wider world. Synopsis Strike of the Skyearls follows the first book in The Psion Saga, Tiger Eyes and Dragon Teeth . Talon, an nineteen-year-old man from the Kriite tribe of Jaria, met his new Rada-kin, an icetiger. He was able to take animal form for the first time. Meeting Rekala also awakened an ancient psionic power within Talon’s blood. These rare abilities enabled him to overcome the magic of enemy Zeikas. Sent by Jaria to seek out allies for their beleaguered village, Talon was accompanied by Sarlice, a warrior fr...

Claws that Cut Both Ways Cover Reveal

Image
Here's the new 2026 cover I've designed for Book 3 of The Psion Saga, Claws that Cut Both Ways! Let me know what you think in the comments. It's version 11 and I'm no perfectionist! :D The book description (back cover blurb) for the fantasy novel is: Bal Harar finally found a way to lure Taeon to Reltland—by capturing Sarlice. It won’t be long before the Zeika leader can wield the powers of a master psion, however, to use them fully he must force Taeon to reveal what he can do. The Arcane Arena is the perfect place. Sarlice is a worthy opponent to the fighters of Feladaire, where she makes her own plan of escape. She knows Taeon will not stay away like she told him to but perhaps, together, they can find a way out of this nest of demons. Taeon hates the Zeikas now more than ever, but when he finds his own brother among them he has to make a choice. Use him to get more information on his enemies, set him aside or convince him there is a better way of life.  Also see Psio...

Great battle scenes in fantasy movies and TV

Image
As a massive fan of fantasy I have watched every show and movie I could get my hands on over the past twenty years, although I'm not too keen on animated shows. Here are ten movies or TV shows will awesome, epic battle scenes: Game of Thrones The Long Night (2019) The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) The Hobbit The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) The Great Wall (2016) The Chronicles of Narnia The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) The Mummy Returns (2001) The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers (2002) Noah (2014) Gods of Egypt (2016) The Lord of the Rings The Return of the King (2003) In my books I generally avoid the stereotypical open battle field with two armies rushing headlong to fight. I don't find it believeable and, especially in fantasy, I like to think about the logic and feeling of the characters. Why are they doing this? Would running 200 yards across a battle field not exhaust them before they'd even had a chance to raise their sword to the en...

The Neptune Project

Image
This is the cover art on Spotify for The Neptune Project, a trance album I recently discovered. I thought it was pretty cool, and I love the music. https://open.spotify.com/album/0LP5tez5dDA26TEnQ7QGlk I listen to a lot of music, especially uplifting trance, chill, epic trance, epic soundtracks and other instrumentals. Spotify claims I'm in the top 1% of listeners by volume, and I actually couldn't afford to have my account for half the year, so imagine what it's going to be in the next 12 months.  If you look up Alikai Bronach on Spotify you'll see some of my playlists I specifically use for writing. There's one called Alikai Bronach's Deadly Dark Writing Music , for example.

Listen to Chapter 1 of Tiger Eyes and Dragon Teeth on Youtube

Image
So, I've gone out on a limb here and done an amateur recording of chapter 1 of my book myself. It's not good enough to publish as an audiobook, but maybe someone will find it interesting on Youtube and decide to buy the ebook or print edition. This is a pretty basic video.  https://youtu.be/gdMAFP1KD1U

Built Regents Keep in Creative Mode of Conan Exiles

Image
I took a break from writing in Oct and Nov 2023 to build Regents Keep in Conan Exiles creative mode. This keep is a location in my upcoming Book 4 of The Psion Saga, The Circlet of Sight. I made a short video about it. I love all the different blocks I can choose in this game as well as copious crafting stations and decorations to help make the world come to life. Best of all, I can have big cats following me around, which is certainly relevant as the main character in my books has an icetiger as his bondmate. https://youtu.be/SAAcXKVTHj0

How to get your fantasy novel published

Image
If your writing is top quality and your world is unique and interesting you may be able to attract the attention of a publisher or agent. If you have a social media following your chances are even higher. If you prefer to be independent it is very easy to self-publish. You can use a service like PublishMyBook.online or go direct to vendors like Amazon and IngramSpark. Traditional publishing As someone who has never been traditionally published, I am not an expert on this space. However, I do have friends who are both authors and small indie publishers. Their journey is very similar to the self-published author journey. A manuscript must be edited, typeset, converted to ebook. A cover must be designed and a marketing plan must be create and enacted.  The cost involved in bringing any product to market properly is thousands, if not tens of thousands, of dollars. If you want to sit back, relax and write, the traditional publishing route may be better for you. You will not have to typ...

My new fantasy novel map for The Psion Saga

Image
I'm going to release a 3rd edition of Tiger Eyes and Dragon Teeth , including a new map along with a few other minor tweaks. I made this map in Illustrator. I don't use this program very often so it's a bit of a strain for the novice graphic designer in me. Should be clearer and easier to read. There's also a much more detailed version, which I might upload if the books become a bit more popular. At the moment I think I'm probably the only one who'd care about the detailed version! TIGER EYES AND DRAGON TEETH is out now!

Strike of the Skyearls - Book 2 of The Psion Saga is out now!

Hello everybody!  Strike of the Skyearls - Book 2 of The Psion Saga is out now! Sarlice and I came to Tanza to escape from the Zeikas. We were not prepared for a realm on the brink of war. Where should our loyalties lie—to our home tribes, to Tanza or to all Kriites? The Zeikas have their fire magic, dragons and other demons, but they lack the strong bonds formed by Kriites. They cannot transform or communicate using the waves like we can. They don’t have skyearls or other kindred fighting alongside them. The Kriites will not give up Tanza without a fight. Now that I have a skyearl of my own, the very skies have opened to me. I was slow to come into my powers in Jaria, but here everything moves too fast. They have a new title for me in Tanza: Master Psion Taeon. I hope I am worthy of it. Here are the links to read for free on Kindle Unlimited (or you can buy print and ebook editions): AUSTRALIA  |  USA  | UK Read for free This entire fantasy novel is available...

02 Strike of the Skyearls - chapters 16-24

Image
Free high fantasy novel - Strike of the Skyearls - Book 2 of The Psion Saga Chapters 16-24 ( Buy book  or go back to  chapters 1-4 ) Chapter Sixteen—Division Jaalta’s searching in the waves that night proved fruitless. There were far too many people in Condii and the surrounding area for her to interrogate everyone. And if Corypha had moved beyond the reach of her human wave-seeking ability, she would never find him. Jett and Tyba were visiting the sickened survivors. They had left me to eat a light breakfast in solitude. After I’d finished I went to the practice yard at the barracks to put some more scratches in the wooden dummies that were there. Fighting continued outside the city but Ciera and I hadn’t been deployed yet. In the meantime I wanted to ensure I would be ready to use my Tolite-kin if the need arose. I was at it for some time before Captain Dathan came out to greet me. ‘I’m sorry we weren’t able to find Corypha.’ He looked worn and haggard as ...
