Great battle scenes in fantasy movies and TV

As a massive fan of fantasy I have watched every show and movie I could get my hands on over the past twenty years, although I'm not too keen on animated shows. Here are ten movies or TV shows will awesome, epic battle scenes:

  • Game of Thrones The Long Night (2019)
  • The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
  • The Hobbit The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)
  • The Great Wall (2016)
  • The Chronicles of Narnia The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
  • The Mummy Returns (2001)
  • The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers (2002)
  • Noah (2014)
  • Gods of Egypt (2016)
  • The Lord of the Rings The Return of the King (2003)
In my books I generally avoid the stereotypical open battle field with two armies rushing headlong to fight. I don't find it believeable and, especially in fantasy, I like to think about the logic and feeling of the characters. Why are they doing this? Would running 200 yards across a battle field not exhaust them before they'd even had a chance to raise their sword to the enemy?

In The Psion Saga my good guys are almost always outnumbered by the enemy, so they tend to engage in stealth and guerilla tactics. With the ability to shapeshift many of them can see better at night than the enemy, making it an ideal time to strike. I am not fussy with my fantasy and love pretty much any TV show that is put to air. Including:
  • The Wheel of Time
  • The Witcher
  • The Witcher: Blood Origin
  • Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
  • Shadow and Bone
  • Game of Thrones
Being in my forties I'm old enough to remember a time when there wasn't much fantasy at all. The movie Willow was one of the first, and I didn't much like Labyrinth or The Dark Crystal, being more of a high fantasy fan. If you couldn't already tell from my writing, I am mad about animals, especially big cats and horses. I can't get enough of flying fantasy creatures and giant monsters, either. So I love dragons, griffins, pegasus, kaiju and even dinosaurs. A lot of creature-type fantasy tends to be made for kids, so I'm always on the hunt for shows with animal companions that are not strictly for kids.

CGI opened this world of possibility to TV and movies decades ago, yet there remains a dearth of good animal characters and telepathy. I'm guessing it's really hard to do in film.Obviously a dream of mine would be for The Psion Saga to be made into a TV show. I have endless ideas for stories and series to make in this world and I think the epic fantasy themes are interesting enough along with my unique spin on how magic works in the world of Chryne. Namely through the alternative dimension 'the waves'.

I'm excited for what directors are going to come out with next in fantasy TV and movies. There seems to be so much of it now, I don't necessarily have time to even watch them all. I'm too busy writing this year! 150,000 words and counting. So fun!!
