 Hello everybody! Strike of the Skyearls - Book 2 of The Psion Saga is out now!


Sarlice and I came to Tanza to escape from the Zeikas. We were not prepared for a realm on the brink of war. Where should our loyalties lie—to our home tribes, to Tanza or to all Kriites?

The Zeikas have their fire magic, dragons and other demons, but they lack the strong bonds formed by Kriites. They cannot transform or communicate using the waves like we can. They don’t have skyearls or other kindred fighting alongside them. The Kriites will not give up Tanza without a fight.

Now that I have a skyearl of my own, the very skies have opened to me. I was slow to come into my powers in Jaria, but here everything moves too fast.

They have a new title for me in Tanza: Master Psion Taeon. I hope I am worthy of it.

Having fun with my son and some AI with Firefly

My son and I had some fun tonight with Firefly, Adobe's AI. It's changed a lot since I last used it. The prompt: A boy who loves frogs on Saturn. The generated image: Often AI gets a few details weird. It especially struggles with hands and feet. I took it into Photoshop and used generative AI and some manual touching up with the paintbrush, healing brush, dodge and eraser tools. I first fixed the frog feet, which don't look right in the original. After fixing the AI-generated frog feet: Photoshop really struggled with the top foot of the frog on the right, so I copy-pasted its other foot and changed it a bit to deal with that. Then I noticed that the boy's right hand and foot are not looking right. So I used generative AI to fix both of those in Photoshop as well. Here's the result: There are a few other oddities I touched up quickly. Not putting any serious time into this, as it's just been for a bit of fun. See if you can spot them! Peace!

Chapter One—Who am I? Light. Glorious, blue prisms of light sparkled off every leaf and branch. Thick, powdery sap burbled slowly inside the crystalline tree. The Great Sapphire Tree of Jaria was one of only a few hundred sapphire trees that were still known to exist. Its leaves were hard and thick as sapphires, its branches like iron bars. Such trees were rare, most having been harvested long ago. I brushed the leaves with the tips of my fingers as I passed the tree, and stooped to get to the cave behind it. I hadn’t made the climb to see the tree, rather to get at the cave and a likely source of milk bulb. I leaned down with a lamp, sniffed the air and listened. A soft scuffling noise reached my ears. Heart thumping, I touched the hilt of my knife, sheathed at my belt. ‘Who’s there?’ I asked. A faint growling rumbled off the wall of the cave. It was too deep and throaty to be a treelion. Why I love writing epic fantasy books

Escapism Writing my epic fantasy series The Psion Saga  is something I've been doing since I was a teenager. It has allowed me to entertain myself and keep my mind busy when I would otherwise be bored. Sometimes life throws difficulties your way, but when I go into the world of Chryne I feel like I am somewhere else. I'm now in my forties and have been working on these fantasy books for over twenty-five years. I hope that the escapism the characters and their epic fight has granted me provides the same feelings to my readers. Creativity Because I get to make up so much cool stuff in my fantasy novels it is a constant source of pleasure for exercising my imagination. Using those muscles of creativity is something that artists of all kinds can relate to. For me, it is a privilege to have such a vivid multi-sensory imagination. Writing my books is something I look forward to and desperately crave. While I am at work I get very focused on what I'm doing, but on breaks or pauses...
